microarrays illumine sleep

Having been extremely fond of sleep since childhood, I'm delighted to see that the use of latter day technology seems to confirm the benefits from sleep that hypnophiles have known since time immemorial. During sleep, important macromolecules are synthesised (during wakefulness, our organism's energy is mostly used up to keep our neurons firing: literally to keep us awake) and synapses 'consolidated' (hence the use of a good night's sleep before exams). Stay awake longer than normal, and your cells slow down, then get stressed, and in more ways than one. (You've been warned.)
